Jax511.com delivers real-time traffic information for Northeast Florida, the latest information on Jacksonville construction, incidents, congestion, road conditions and accidents. Live cameras show real-time images of accidents and congestion on I-95, I-295 and I-10 in the Jacksonville area.
What is 511? 511 is a free phone and Web service providing real-time information on traffic conditions and incidents. Similar to the national phone numbers for information (411) and emergencies (911), we now have 511 as the national phone number for traffic and travel information.
In July 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designated 511 as the national travel information number to be operated by state departments of transportation around the country. Since then, dozens of states have initiated the system and now Northeast Florida joins the other regions of our state that have implemented 511 on a full-scale basis. By the end of 2006, thirty-three states will have 511, making it accessible to 54 percent of U.S. population.
Travelers can dial 511 to access current information for specific routes and roadways, including traffic accidents, roadway blockages and lane closures. In addition, this jax511 web site will incorporate actual real-time images from traffic cameras and opportunities for you to provide feedback.
The Florida Department of Transportation has worked with partner agencies throughout our state to implement 511. Nationally, the system is managed by a partnership known as the 511 Coalition. It includes these four organizations: - American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) - American Public Transit Association (APTA) - Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) - United States Department of Transportation (US DOT)
